Asos is one of my favorites shops which is why every thing here is from Asos. I decided it would be cool to include Curvy and non since some of these dresses fit up to a 12/14. When I think of Holiday Dresses I think of dark colors, sparkle, and even velvet. This is the season where cocktail parties, fundraisers, and dinners are happening all over the city why not step it up and wear one of these below?
I think the both of these dresses give a Vintage feel, of course two different eras but still Vintage.
I found these to be the best options when you want to stand out. The red is my favorite even if it’s Gift Wrap Chic.
There’s a limited stock for the Peplum Dress but I love the metallic look. The skater dress would be one of my favorite silhouettes if I didn’t have such massive chest mates. *_*
Both dresses feature sheer details. I prefer the latter if it’s a grown and sexy event. I think someone with amazing legs and a super high heel would kill in this. So my style if I could wear it. I love the Deco detail for a 20′s vibe.
I can think of a few ways to wear this swing dress beyond Holiday fun. I love the fact the second dress is actually Camo…I would have never known if it wasn’t in the name. I still think the green and gold scream holiday.
The Maxi dress seems like a conservative choice until you start walking and dancing. I love the thigh action here.
So can see why I love Asos so much? There have so much stuff there, honestly it’s like a black hole for online shoppers like me. Hopefully you were able to find something you like.
I have a thing for walking around the Thrift Store and finding older skirts, Midi length skirts to be exact. This seems to be the style on some online stores but I’ve loved them for a long time. It’s clear to me that people love or hate them. My boss for one…calls me Granny every time I wear one to work. In fact I’m pretty sure he called this one a Granny skirt too. Haters gone hate right? I dubbed my taste for these skirts as “Granny Skirt Swag”. I took a picture in a Midi Skirt on Instagram and some told me I looked like ” A fucking Jehovah Witness” …well that just wasn’t nice…but someone who clearly has no sense of style doesn’t get under my skin. I always get a handful of shade thrown my way for these skirts or tons of love mostly from my Blogger friends. I recently went to Brunch with a bunch of Fab Plus Size Bloggers. We’re brewing up something big for the holidays! I’m so excited.
I wore this blue and white skirt with a white Cynthia Rowley top. Did you know they made her brand in women’s sizes? I am always scoring her tops at Marshalls and Tj Maxx for around $16 to $19 bucks. They are nice and stretchy and I love the texture of the fabric. I’m rocking my “New Look Camden Chunky Work Lace Up Heeled Boots” again, from ASOS. Which I’m so in love with. I don’t wear heels a lot but these are my starter heels to get used to the height until I work my way up to higher, thinner heels. they are really comfortable.
Of course there is that same old Target “leather” jacket. I think it goes with everything and I don’t care what anybody says haha. That little necklace an ivory Cheetah necklace. Don’t worry it was a gift and made of old ivory before they put laws in place about ivory.

When I was invited to the School of Style pop up at the Donovan House Hotel I thought I would be styling something. As I did research for these classes I realized this was an informational sort of class. I actually loved that a lot better than styling anyway when I reported about the class here. Stepping into the lobby I saw a few familiar faces and students the lobby of the hotel is beautiful. We were taken upstairs to sit down and the set up was nice.
Luke who is hilarious is the primary teacher of this pop up shop. He’s so relatable to me in terms of using a classy amount of profanity to get his point across. My type of guy! Luke has a lot of experience. He started out as a musician, and while house sitting for a friend who was a stylist, he ended up running errands for her and that was the beginning on his career. Years later he has worked with a great clientele and has loads of experience. He teaches this class alone.
I can’t share everything that we learned in the class because that would defeat the purpose right? Long story short Luke gives you the ins and outs of what to expect if you want to start a career in styling. We went over the different types of stylist. One major difference being that Personal styling is probably something you can start now and have success with right away. Styling…like June Ambrose or Rachel Zoe takes years to achieve success. It’s hard work it takes forever, you have to literally start from the bottom. This isn’t news to me, but what was news were the many tips and tricks of styling. Luke gives you a crash course in how to use common sense in order to swiftly move through internships and be prepared for anything on set. Mentioning how to contact design houses, understanding the fees associated with pulling items, the little tips that matter. How to pull items, forms to fill out and the raw truth of how you the stylist should conduct your business when it comes to money.
School of style has three classes for those who truly want to invest in training to become a stylist. In the past I would have said that this is something that you can start small with and build your clientele. While this is still true, do you want to pay up and learn and get the information up front or gamble with “hoping” you will be successful. For someone who’s looking to start making money now, instead of hoping the best in after two years or working. Luke’s class also offers a book of contacts and upon completion of all classes you will be added to the list of job openings from Lukes contacts and SOS alumni. I know two women that in a matter of year are actually working on a regular basis because of SOS. Styling is nothing like what you see on Rachel Zoe…well it is, but in reality you’re the minions running around making everything happen for her to be successful. I learned so much from the class and I recommend anybody who is serious about becoming a stylist to take the class if you can. Lauren Messiah teaches the personal style classes as well, and from what I hear she is amazing!!
School of style also sells Stylist kits like this one shown above with items that you should always have on hand when styling. A lot of these items keep the garments in place, clean, and ready for returns. He also has a book of contacts that you can purchase the go to folks in the right places if you plan on becoming a stylist. I think School of Style is a wonderful resource for those who want to get into the business, it seems like you can skip through a lot of wasted time, and possible dead ends by having this school on your resume and being an alumni.
Luke and Laura, who I found out grew up around DC. I wonder what part, I didn’t think to ask her when we chatted. Luke is also hilarious. He told me a gnarly (his word) story about how he put a kiddie relaxer in his hair, and it turned to mush. LOL I can’t really say what the funniest part of that story was but he just seems like a guy with a lot of crazy shit to share. For the first time I didn’t feel like I was in a 8 hour class. Luke made it so easy to not doze off in this sort of setting.
Sometimes you have a great outfit in mind, it looks good in the
mirror half mirror. and then you get outside and you start to feel a little off, and coo-coo for walking out the house like you just did. I felt a little ratchet, or maybe it was my new red wig. As soon as I sat in my car I thought “Elle girl why did you buy this Rihanna circa 2011 wig”. I did a get a few compliments about the hair but honestly I wanted to give my hair a break for awhile and I’ve never worn red hair.
I started to feel weird with these Striped Jeans from Forever21+. They are actually really nice jeans though. They don’t stretch out after a long period of time, and they actually fit tight around my calves. They fit nicely in general but I decided to step outside of my comfort zone on Saturday. I pair it with a grey tank top and a yellow blazer. The idea seemed good in retrospect but once I got Krystin of Be Loud Be You to snap a few photos I wasn’t feeling it. I wasn’t feeling my super skinny looking legs, and my big chest. Maybe I am being hard on myself or maybe the outfit would have done better with an entire different feel. I think even a cool pointy heel (dressy shoe in general), and a plain white tee sanz yellow blazer would have been nicer. Fashion is all about trying different things though. I still wanted to post my pictures because I am in love with the jeans but I think this outfit personally was a big fail for me. Perhaps my dislike for these pants at the moment might have to do with this.
Shop the Jeans Below
It seems that everybody loves when Rihanna tones it down. This picture crossed my Timeline more than 4 times this morning. I loved it too, but what I really love is that you can make this style your own and it’s nice on all shapes and sizes IMO. My favorite look is Blazer and Jeans but I really loved the blush colored blazer. Clearly any color works with blue jeans, but what about patterned jeans? I kept telling myself I would DIY polka dot jeans but I’m too lazy, I’ve been eying these at Asos. I may get them now that I can see myself dressing them a little for a night out with girls or a date. By the way Rih looks pissed.
You can play around with this outfit by changing the shoe to give yourself more coverage for the fall. Even a nice ankle boot depending, I really like this Tibi Boot as an investment of course. Playing around with a looser White Button up makes the outfit fun like this Macys Find or this Edgier Nasty Gal Cut out Shirt. You can also layer these with dainty necklaces or a big statement necklace.
What do you think of Blush Colored Blazers? I’m not even sure if that’s the right term…but it works for me. Maybe Blush isn’t your thing. I found a bunch of Pink Colored Blazers below, from cheap to …
.”girl $800 O_o” Chic.
Fall is approaching and I’m super excited about it. I’ve never been a big fan of summer. I love layers, tights, and boots. I also prefer skirts over pants no matter what the season, even in the dead of winter. I’ve realized something in the month that I haven’t posted. I take this blog too seriously. I look at clothes and recipes all day and for some reason I don’t think it’s ever good enough to post on this blog. Get used to me blogging whatever, and all I can do is hope you’re feeling it.
Back to Fall. Growing up I had an obsession with leather everything and I took that into my adulthood. My pockets won’t let me love real leather…and some brands won’t let me fit their leather pieces. Yet we still have options like Dorothy Perkins Fall Collection…I mean I want everything from there. I want the leather look without breaking my pockets this year, so I picked 6 Must have Faux Leather Skirts. I’ve pretty much managed to think of how I would wear each one of these, yet I will spare you the additional six Polyvore collages. The first skirt a Quilted Leather Mini would go well with a pair of ankle boots and my vintage Ringling Brothers tee…if it weren’t currently fitting like a smedium sized kid shirt. I love the Mini Asymmetrical skirt which I would wear with a loose fitting white tee and a textured leather jacket like this one from Asos Curve check out the arm detail! The ponte wrap skirt is my favorite skirt out of the bunch, more than likely I would love to pair this with a fun light v neck sweater in a cream color and ankle boots. I’d layer it with gold necklaces. I found a ton of cheapie ones from Forever 21. The Skater Skirt looks real enough to me and I could see myself tucking any one of the tees that I currently have for a casual look or tucking in a few of my dressier shirts and a pair of boots for an edgy look. I’d even throw a cute blazer that I have with Leather like lapels on and a fun pair of heels. The other Skater Skirt next to it only has trim but I’ve pretty much treat it the same way. Now! The classic pencil skirt. What a beauty, the possibilities are endless. Classic White Button up, a fun initial sweater, or even a vintage band tee from an etsy shop.
Dorothy Perkins offers all of these skirts in sizes 2 to 18, which is a great range for the variety of clothing they have. I love that they go up to 18 in trendier clothing instead of making a totally different collection in plus. No shade. Tell me which one is your favorite and how would you rock it? ….YESSS give me visuals!

I’m really excited about this news! Let’s see long story short, like most bloggers I have dreams of quitting my job and working for myself. As many of you know I’ve been slowly working to get myself a business license and hoping to open my own store online. I’ve been in such lingo with DC to obtain it but no worries, this isn’t stopping me. One of my goals is eventually become a stylist. I don’t plan on becoming the next June Ambrose, or Rachel Zoe but the knowledge of styling would help me greatly for odd jobs and styling my products when I get to that point. Like most places, these types of classes and workshops are mostly offered in NY. Well by the time I did the calculations for 4 trips to FIT for a month long course that meets once a week I was coming up with prices of the “this shit ain’t for me” variety. Hotels, bus rides (trains if you’re bougie like me) the class fees I really kept thinking well why can’t I find anything in DC.
Of course like fate School of Style emailed me. They are coming to DC August 31 through September 1 and here’s the kicker Lauren Messiah, and Luke Storey are teaching the 2 day workshop. I’m a fan of both and it’s so exciting that real pros are coming to show feature stylist the ropes. They will cover how the business works, how to get started in the business, and more importantly- how to stay in the business. I’m really excited because I’ll be attending as press to share everything that is being taught for those two days.
So I’m sharing because School of Style has offered EatStylePlay readers…and lurkers 15 % off their tickets . Now this class is indeed pricey, I will say this however. This class if for those who are serious about the business of styling. These are all of the things that will be taught in the two day workshop.

I’ve been a blog reader for even longer than I’ve been a blogger. As the years go by I tend to focus on bloggers who are up and coming because to me this keeps everything fresh. Yet I still stalk some of the “bigger bloggers” that I’ve been a fan of for years. Now I’m mentioning Aimee because I have serious envy when it comes to her hardware. Most of the time I can’t wear anything she post but I can rock that jewelry. In fact I literally love how she stacks everything, but I espeically love when she stacks her rings. She sticks to the same pieces for lengths at a time but they always work for her. She isn’t the first blogger to do it but she is one of my favorites who mixes high and low when it comes to stacked rings. Anyway I came across another blogger and Queen Bey who obviously have a little mulah to spend on a $440 stack ring set. I closed the box quicklyand thought ”ain’t nobody got time for that”. I’ve come to a point where I know that I can get half of this stuff for cheaper. Getting the look for less is not a choice, it’s a way of like for me during this economy. A lot of times jewelry designs are not a new concept unless you’re talking about Wendy Brandes…because she actually has orginal stuff that’s super unique like this Twerk Necklace.
Back to the point! These rings…the $440 set the ones here. Is that not a crazy amount for some rings? I don’t care who makes it or what metal it’s made from. So I found alternatives that I thought I’d make a blog post from it…well because it’s my blog. I do what I want!!
The real deal to the left, and 4 affordable stack ring options under $23.00 on the right. Starting with a Silver Toned Set from Asos. Now I love these for obvious reasons, they are $13 for the entire set. I’ve always gravitated towards that color in the past and I love the different sizes. The second and third set are from Nasty Gal which I have to say if you google the owner and creator she has an amazing story of how she got that store to become what it is today. Lastly the Gold texture ring set is one of my favorites because they are nothing like the “real deal” and they have their own cute detail about them. You get the trend with your own twist if you’re still not into totally copying the rings. Have you really seen these trend and how are you feeling it?
I’ve been finding a lot of options for dainty and stackable rings!! Shop the look down below. What do you think about ring stacks? I have such a limited amount of rings at the moment but with prices like these I’ve been eying a lot of them for my fall wish list.
First of all I see a dimple, do you? That’s my grandmothers Dimple or am I delusional?
Lately I’ve been seeing a sort of 180 towards big girls who are embracing their figure. I guess people are tired of seeing us rock crop tops, and show our belly’s. Well guess what…that’s not my problem. It shouldn’t bother folks either. You can mumble under your breathe, comment on twitter, and hate all you want. If you don’t like looking at us…then don’t look. I am truly proud of the thousands of plus size women who are posting their stylist pictures on Instagram, Twitter, FB. The women who are supporting plus size designers and breaking all of the rules. Trust me, I’ve witnessed some really strong hate recently. I had to remove myself from that situation because I’d be a hypocrite if I didn’t. So get over it, us fat chicks might not be your cup of tea, but it’s not our problem.
I recently went out and thought to myself “Elle, why are you always playing is safe with a dress?”. Indeed it was too hot to fool with under pieces like girdles. I mean it literally felt like it was 105 today and it was a (gasp) code orange. I wanted to stay cool, but I didn’t want my lovely thigh meat sweating and struggling. Ladies you know what I’m talking about. I brought these Prabal Gurung for Target shoes months ago. I had them up on the shelf thinking I would sell them later on Ebay. The time never came and the hype fizzed out. I loved them because they were a perfect fit for this type of shoe and it wasn’t a huge wedge. If anybody knows me I will swear up and down that my toes are my flaw. I have a weird hammertoe. Yet I figured you know what I’ve seen worse, and if I have a pedicure then so what…if people don’t like my toes they can get over that too. Back to the shoes, they sat there for sometime and then I thought what the heck “wear them” so I put this outfit together. My favorite some what Croppy top from H&M that I purchased in Rome, and these amazing jeans from Old Navy. It’s their Rockstar skinny brand and I can’t wait to purchase more of these since I pretty much wore my black pair down to thread. They fit me perfectly, even my skinny legs at the bottom. Photos by Jennifer of Comme Coco.
Jenn I want you to talk with some “umph” ….So I did my Belly Dancing Move called the Oriental Walk…I didn’t manage to bust my ass like I do in class.
I’m still rocking my Love, Cortnie Clutch. It’s so handy for my camera and lens and anything else in there. Plus everybody ask me about it because of the neoprene. My arm party consist of Michael Kors, Madewell, H&M, that Green Bangle I got in 2000 when I went to Africa, and those white ones. I got on a recent trip to Atlanta.
I’m changing my hair soon. Vivy installed these curly crochet’s for me. It lasted for a month, and I think the older the get the better they look. I think I’ll stick to highlighted hair colors too.

I hate to go here but an incredibly large amount of my friends of color made such a stink about the 4th of July. Many questioned why we even celebrate? Why, when our people weren’t free at the time. Well this is true up to a certain point. I guess I’m a little annoyed at these same people not doing anything to make this nation better. They do this every year and it’s like “okay we get it” . Personally I’m very aware of what’s going on in the world and I’m very thankful to live here because of that. In this present time we are free, and we live in a country that while it isn’t prefect is still a blessing for many of us. I don’t want to get political I don’t want to start a debate either. I do however want to share what I am very thankful for as a citizen of the U.S.A.
I’m thankful that I live in a country where freedom of speech doesn’t land you in jail, or put to death. Where maybe you are just held accountable for it, people don’t have to like it but there is a freedom that allows people to vocally oppose it or agree even it brings upon judgement. It’s your opinion but at the same time you better be prepared to defend it regardless if you stand by or see the other side of the coin. I’m thankful to live in a country that allows me to take hold of my own destiny. I’m not forced to live by a males ideals because they are stuck in the stone age. I’m happy to live in a country where I can worship a Unicorn if I wanted to. I can pretty much do what I want in regards to the way I live my life. I’m able to go out here and set my mind to getting a job and I can get that job because I’m qualified. My race, my sex, my sexual preference isn’t up for question in most cases…at least the law is there that shit shouldn’t matter. I’m thankful that as a woman my body is mine. While we are constantly fighting for those rights I’m happy that we can even fight for it..that we can flood the streets and scream to the top of our lungs that our bodies are ours and our choices are ours.
My point is there is so much to be grateful for. Yes we live in a nation that isn’t perfect but at the end of the day we have so many freedoms that people wish they had. Freedoms that some people won’t even see in their lifetime. I urge you to open your eyes and be grateful for the things you have in life solely because you have been given the freedom to make those choices.
I hope you all enjoyed your 4th of July!!! What did you do? I spent my Morning volunteering at DC Central Kitchen an amazing organization in Washington, DC. After that I went with my mom to Lunch, and saw the New Kevin Hart Movie, and then I went to my Bosses out for Kabobs and Wine. I had a pretty good day I would say.
