I’m really excited about this news! Let’s see long story short, like most bloggers I have dreams of quitting my job and working for myself. As many of you know I’ve been slowly working to get myself a business license and hoping to open my own store online. I’ve been in such lingo with DC to obtain it but no worries, this isn’t stopping me. One of my goals is eventually become a stylist. I don’t plan on becoming the next June Ambrose, or Rachel Zoe but the knowledge of styling would help me greatly for odd jobs and styling my products when I get to that point. Like most places, these types of classes and workshops are mostly offered in NY. Well by the time I did the calculations for 4 trips to FIT for a month long course that meets once a week I was coming up with prices of the “this shit ain’t for me” variety. Hotels, bus rides (trains if you’re bougie like me) the class fees I really kept thinking well why can’t I find anything in DC.
Of course like fate School of Style emailed me. They are coming to DC August 31 through September 1 and here’s the kicker Lauren Messiah, and Luke Storey are teaching the 2 day workshop. I’m a fan of both and it’s so exciting that real pros are coming to show feature stylist the ropes. They will cover how the business works, how to get started in the business, and more importantly- how to stay in the business. I’m really excited because I’ll be attending as press to share everything that is being taught for those two days.
So I’m sharing because School of Style has offered EatStylePlay readers…and lurkers 15 % off their tickets . Now this class is indeed pricey, I will say this however. This class if for those who are serious about the business of styling. These are all of the things that will be taught in the two day workshop.
An introduction to a career in wardrobe styling
Identifying and working on different jobs in the industry
How to prep and wrap a styling job
Policies, paperwork, and billing as a wardrobe stylist

How to build your styling portfolio

If anything you’ll be one degree closer to Yeezy, Kim, and Baby North West!!!
I normally don’t post things like this, but you know what YOLO. I tuned in with some of my favorite bloggers and channeled my inner Joan Rivers minus the botox. We live tweeted the Met Gala while watching the Live feed Via Vogues Website. I was excited that this years theme was “Punk”. As the dates neared for this Vogue worked with HONY on this project to feature Punk Fashion in NY. So of course for some niave reason I thought some stylist would see this and get the memo…but nope. Nobody really gave a damn and the best quote of the evening was Grace Coddington saying –
“I’d like to see some real punks…like street punks. But they’re probably not invited.”
I hollered…because she was fucking right. I love Grace and her sassy ass. I mean could they have invited a sprinkle of punks? I mean something, even if they flew them in for London themselves? Because as someone with an amazing punk friend…I sat there thinking…What the hell is this? Now don’t get me wrong there were a lot of people who didn’t even understand the theme and hated everything off the break. I’m not that type of person. I understand punk for a certain degree having a friend who lives that lifestyle. He’s been nothing but open with me, and of course talking to him all the time I know what he’s about. So i knew that fashion in the punk lifestyle is not about glam, and being fancy. So I was very interested in seeing how all of these beautiful people translated that. Also I hope someone at the MET sees this…Don’t ever let those two Hillary Rhoda and Billy host that red carpet again.
So when I logged on and saw that even Ms. Wintor didn’t give a damn…I knew she would set the tone. I know it’s Anna Wintor but I would have loved to see her even rock something close to edgy even if it was just for one night. She wore this though.
Okay so Anna mentioned that Punk was about “pink” so she had on pink…uh Anna…ma’am I respect you for all that you have done for the fashion industry but aside from this Chanel Dress being gorgeous you could have done something? I would have loved to see her in something darker, black, leather something.
Lets start with the “good” …I wanted to see more black and badassery last night. These women served up a little bit of that. These were my favorite black looks. Cara, Anne, and Alexa dresses were some of favorites.
Nina, Stacy, and Taylor brought it by stepping outside the box a little more. I love Stacy’s dress but would probably have changed the booties and had a little more fun with my hair and make up. I also like Nina’s Dress because I’m a sucker for these pants dress hybrid situations. Taylor looked like she was ready to break hearts and then write more songs about it.
So i’m not saying a thing about Miley’s hair…if I were a stylist I would have at least tried to do a really Chic Slick back with this look. Spikey hair is Punk but …i’m not sure if this is it. Ms. Versace got my feathers ruffled when her last line was themed “punk” my friend and I kept thinking…”no” but for someone her age she is still so badass to me. She loves her body hugging dressed, and I love that she added some serious arm swag with studs and spikes. I don’t know I just love Claire Danes Dress in general…but I would have loved to see her do more.
I wasn’t feeling Sarah…I was totally there for the head piece though. Had she wore even a Bone straight hair style I think it would have suited her dress well but who am I? Katy Perry donned Dolce and Gabanna and I loved it. I was there for the crown and the Historical references of her dress. Not really “punk” but still amazing. Giovanna Battaglia wore Dolce as well. If anything I loved her for actually pulling it all together. According to a lot of people they hated it, but for some reason I just a full on editorial vibe from her. Not to mention I loved everything from this collection that D&G did…I was just excited to see people wearing it.
I thought for some reason there would be more shorter dresses instead of gowns.
Kate…killed it in Balmain. Madonna, well she is Madonna and I don’t know why anybody expected her to keep it simple and boring like most of the other guest, I personally liked her outfit. Karolina did her thing in this Mary Katrantzou dress…I liked the dressed more than I thought it was anything near “punk” but she wore it and I loved her shoes.
These three looks also were my favorites. Rita …well I love her anyway she is daring and I loves the suttle slits and exposure. Sienna…I actually loved that she just threw on the most badass moto jacket and kept is moving…..and Nicole….(bow down) i’m not worthy. A lot of people called her Hades from the Disney film Hercules…but you know what she pulls off that hair well. I loved her dress too. Her make up was flawless and had she been in magazine with this same look I think people would have veen drooling.
I don’t know I had a love hate relationship with Gwens outfit I mean her make up is flawless, and I always looked at her style growing up. It’s evolved so much. I still love the two piece dress …ah…well I guess I did like the look a lot, it was def fun. Chanel looked stunning in black and white, and and Ms. Diaz in Stella McCartney looked amazing. None looked punk but still some of my favorites.
Kim…Girl. I swear I have sympathy for you. The media breaks down everything from what you ate, to your body while carrying child. I hate it, I think they have no right to go there, but I was soooooo thrown off when you came in with this Floral Bed Quilt on…and to top it off the gloves seem attached to the dress which actually grosses me out. I love the leg slit but I’m not impressed one bit by the pattern.
Kanye…why…you let her come out like this? I hvave questions!
Hmm Katie…I think you missed the memo.
In DC we love to “cut up” and be snarky…but I will save that for another time. I’ll just say that I wasn’t impressed with any of these dresses of extra small blazers. I really expected the Olsens to bring it since they are like the queens of changing it up. Psy…no idea why you’re there and no idea why you have that one button breaking a sweat to stay closed. Nicki…your hair was so flawless on American Idol lately and then you go and throw this hair on…and a wierd dress. I’m not here for it.
Solange didn’t really try but she looks amazing… I mean flawless from the Fro to the shoes. I loved her dress but she really looks like she came out of a 60′s Magazine.
As the Red Carpet ended we all thought Where is Beyonce?” …well she should have stayed…I was NOT feeling this dress regardless of who it was made by. Givenchy set that girl up. I love her as an entertainer but this is a busy dress…too freaking busy for me. This was it, she had the steps all to herself and I thought…wow…keep it moving.
What did you think of the looks? Any favorites? Which one was your worst look??
I’m claiming this new blog on Bloglovin of course I can’t merge my old blog and this new one. Boooooooo! Anyway, I’m trying to take care of the small things before the new blog launch! If you’re following the old blog on bloglovin, come over to the dark side and follow the new one!

I promise you I haven’t given up on this blog. I’m currently doing some “redocorating” if you can catch my drift. My new blog should be up soon, and I didn’t see any point in posting a ton of stuff and possibly have something go wrong as I move to self host my site! I’m so excited for you to see the outcome! More recipes of the basic variety and some …not so basic! Yummy in the end no matter how much effo rt is put in. I’ve been testing a lot of things to make, and saving up a ton of Gifs so you know I can express ………myself.
I just wanted to do a quick post and share an awesome picture of myself with Dani Stahl! If I ever had a dream job it would be magically train myself, and then work at a magazine. Nylon is one of my favorites, so much so that it’s included in my stack of magazine subscriptions. I love this magazine for one, I always hear about cool bands, and new and upcoming designers, they have a knack for finding high end and affordable and they are always spot on with upcoming trends!
Editor-at-large of Nylon Magazine Dani Stahl was in DC last night to help us celebrate South Mood Under’s Lookbook. Local Stylist and Blogger Team Spicy Candy which consist of Carla Sanchez and Katya Ananieva were featured and styled themselves!
Dani Stahl’s style is fun, young, and cool! She was super laid back and she might be reading! I gave her my card and we chatted for a little while! I managed to get a picture with her outside! I didn’t have my camera because i’ve lost all of my memory cards! Hopefully I’ll see some pictures of myself floating around to share.
My button popped, and I’m rocking a vintage YSL blazer that I scored at Mercedes Bien Vintage in Adams Morgan.
I found a picture of me at the event taken by Sai of Because I Am Fabulous.
Shirt – Stolen from Mom
Bag – Rebecca Minkoff
Shoes – Gap (2011)
Ann Taylor has a new look and apparently extended sizes for all of us curvy fashionistas! Ann Taylor opened a new concept store in DC. They’re new line is full of faux furs pieces, cute trenches, chunky sweaters, and cute new crystal jewelry pieces. They had an event to celebrate the new launch at Lost Society on U. Street in conjunction with Washingtonian Magazine . It was a great space, after climbing 3 flights of steps!! After my calves recovered I finally made it up! It was a really nice spot! Rooftop access and open bar! The folks over at Ann Taylor definitely knows how to party! Staffers of Ann Taylor walked around with the new pieces. Unfortunately it was pretty hard to get some of the camera shy staffers to pose for a picture. After taking a bunch of pictures for you all! We got the party started!
As some of you know more and more women are being affected by Breast Cancer, and October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. My Aunt, only the love my life was diagnosed last year with Breast Cancer. Stage one, we caught it early, and for almost a year she lived with us while she went through her Chemo Treatments. Sometimes I wonder if putting too much of my personal life on this blog will backfire, but I think this is a serious issue. Needless to say my Aunt is cancer free, and we hope that it never comes back. Last year I heard about Pink Jams the day after it held an event. I put a mental note in my mind that I would try and catch the event the following year. Fast forward to last Tuesday! Somehow I saw a tweet regarding the event and immediately said! I have to get my TICKET! So I did, and it felt good to give to the cause! Pink Jams is an organization that shines the light on women under forty who are plagued with Breast Cancer, uncommon, but very possible. This years show featured 15 women under forty who worked with local designers to create a dress reflective of their style. The showed would be followed by a showing of Christian Siriano ‘s Spring collection fresh off the runway of NYFW. The donations made from this fundraiser went to the Capital Breast Care Center. I was so happy to be a part of this!
This months Blogger Meetup was awesome! Of course through the sea of “Do you blog?” I met up with some friends from the last meetup and new girls and a couple of guys.
CAPFABB does an awesome job of finding great venues! I was so excited to visit a spa since I’d been looking around for one but too lazy to go partly because I don’t want to go alone. I don’t know sometimes I feel that way. Some things are better with friends! I need a few more of those though!
I can’t remember everyone’s name. I pretty much zoned out because my feet were damn near numb from my platforms that I had on all day! ( the things we do to look good). I’m pretty sure I looked bleh! Even after my Eyebrow Adventure! My point is if you see your picture ,give me a holla in the comments section so I can visit your blog and add you to my DC blog Roll. If you see yourself in a photo please remember to credit me for it! CAUSE I’lllll Finnnd youuuu! pwhahaha.
I got there early, and this was the first person I saw. She wasn’t a blogger but I think she was there with a friend. I know her name started with an M. She looked great in a pair of Leather shorts, a fur vest, and Moschino Belt!! she didn’t stay long but definitely made a great impression.
Yes that’s my girl Dana NEVER Afraid to be herself!
I had a ball at this meetup and I can’t wait to see what happens next time.
I’m excited to see what venue we will be at next time.
Hey all! Happy Friday! I wanted to share something fun and out of the ordinary that I did last night! I blindly entered a little giveaway with a tweeter names Modi he runs DCtoBC a hip hop based blog. I should also mention that i have a little twitter crush on him, he is so handsome! He does great things in DC, and he graduated from Boston College hence the name. Anyway he asked us to tweet him if we were interested in attending the Heineken Red Star Soul Tour. I RT’ed thinking oh, whatever. A day before the event I got an email saying I would have two tickets waiting at the door for me. I was so excited then realized that I would be there alone, I called friends, all of them were busy. What was I to do? I went on their FB page and looked, and there were a lot of people who couldn’t get tickets because there were never tickets on sale to begin with. What a way to say “exclusive” . I found someone on the FB fan page and had them meet me to get them in. Although I don’t remember them saying thanks, I was happy to let someone in with my blessing.
I get inside. I see a few people that I know, but don’t know really well. Awkwardddd….standing next to them and not really talking. I tried to make conversation but no avail lol. The twitter gods must have heard my prayers because I went to check my phone and Voila! Sandra G a DC blogger was there! She said hey, I’m on my way there! Find me! So i did! Yay!! After sipping on free Heineken’s and munching on Shrimp and Jerk Wings we made our way upstairs, mingled and then the show started! Adrienne Balion hosted the show, and there were great performances but Cyhi the Prince and Pusha T one half of the rap group The Clipse. These two are signed to the G.O.O.D music label I beliece that Kayne West has something to do with it. They did a great job, and although it was a small intimate crowd it was so live! I had a blast! We were right up front! I tried an array of photo editing styles! Let me know what you think!
My Prada’s came out to play! But after about 2 hours or standing….they went in my purse and I wore my flats!
Special thanks to Modi for the amazing hook up!
So today I had Chocolate covered Bacon! I can’t lie, i’ve always wanted to try it! Today was my chance, and I took it! I attended the Safeway BBQ Battle! I decided to skip the annual Caribbean Day Festival. What kind of Trini am I to miss that? One I’m sick of the crazy fearless children that run rampant all over DC. I’m glad I didn’t go there was serious drama down there that I kind of predicted would happen! It’s a shame you can’t have fun without the fear of something bad happening.
Kendra and I got on the subway and got off on the wrong stop! After we finally got there to the right stop! We entered come contest, yelled at the vendors for never having the Frozen Wine ready, and passed all of the food options! I finally settled on a half way decent italian sausage, and then Ribs, Fries, and Chocolate Covers Bacon from the Famous Daves Stand. We finally did get our frozen wine after stopping past four of the drink tents. Then we attempted to compete in a hot wing eating contest sponsored by man vs food and forgot to go back! We also did a video entry for man vs food to come to DC, and do a food challenge!
We had fun. I’ve included a few pictures! I tried to edit this time! Lemme know if you like them! Overall we had a great time! It was fun, and the food was so worth walking around in the hot sun, and of course NO Drama, just good clean wholesome fun!
Last week I had a great lunch at Pasara Thai. I looked across the street at a line wrapped around the corner! I wonders what in the world are they selling over there! Trust me anytime something new pops up in DC, people go for the sheer pleasure of saying “oh I’ve been there”. Understandable, I’ve never been one to ever wait in line for anything ever! The exception will be the Versace for H&M Line that I learned about on Mel’s Blog One Day in April . So excited, I will be in a line like shown below!
Anyway I said…”well Michelle, make a mental note and come back!”
And I did, but of course I had too look it up first. I didn’t find much. So I took to my twitter.
My conversation with melody Via Twitter……(or what I remember)
Me: Has anybody been to Shack Shack yet? Is it good?
Mel- Are you kidding it’s great! Get the Double and Cheese Fries!
Me: Okay I’m on my way there!
Whats a burger place without remote tickets? It wasn’t the crowded for this, but whatever.
They had everything you can imagine for a classic burger shop except BACON! No Chili for the Cheese Fries! I was super excited to have a milkshake though!
We settled on two singles with everything (lettuce tomato and onion)
Cheese Fries and Chocolate and Strawberries Milkshakes.
My mother was impatiently waiting for her food! Apparently she was in deep thought about getting on order of Cheese Fries…
I give Shake Shack a 4 out %. I really love bacon on my burgers and Chili with my Fries! They had neither! You have to make sure you asked for your burger well done! I like mine medium so I got that without them even asking! The burgers are so yummy though! The fries are amazing, and the Milkshakes, well I haven’t had one in awhile but this was so good and creamy!
